DEVIN MARIE FAITH. JUNE 23. 16. NEW YORK.
I realized that a lot of people go out of their way to avoid anything that might entail a little awkwardness- breaks in the conversation, uncertainty of the appropriate actions. We won’t go to a party if we don’t know enough people there, we’ll avoid talking to someone when we don’t know what to say, we won’t speak our minds just in case people don’t agree with us thus inducing a heavy silence. Well, this is ridiculous. Last year, this slightly strange, notoriously nerdy kid took a chance and asked this amazingly attractive senior to junior ball. Obviously, this would mean countless awkward scenarios for her. He was certainly not on her level, he probably wouldn’t know how to put his hands on her waist for pictures, I’m sure dancing together was definitely interesting- but she said yes. After the dance, she said it wasn’t that bad, surprisingly. He, however, said it was the best night of his life and was completely overwhelmed with the fun he had. It just made me think that a little bit of awkwardness for you is totally worth the happiness of someone else.
No moment lasts forever. Whether it’s joy, sadness, embarrassment, anger, or awkwardness, they all end at some point, and when you look back on them, they seem small and insignificant. So I think that whatever the emotions of the moment are, embrace them! Think about the feelings of the other people around you rather than just yourself(:
